I was born and raised in Tullahoma, Tennessee, and moved to New York in 2023 to pursue my passion for photography and social change
at Pratt Institute. I have been fascinated by art for as long as I can remember - I received my first camera at the age of four,
and since then my understanding of what constitutes art has continued to evolve. Photography has always been my primary way of
exploring that idea, first through nature and landscape work and later through the approach of documentary. What remains constant
in my practice is the belief that art functions as a universal form of communication - something that continues to inspire me to
create work that sparks conversation and encourages change.
Although I took few art classes during high school, I did have a dual-enrollment Art History course at my local community
college which ignited my interest in the power art holds and ultimately influenced my decision to pursue photography professionally.
As I continued developing my practice, I began exploring a wider range of photographic approaches, including conceptual work,
street photography, portraits, and more journalistic imagery.
When I began my studies, my foundation courses initially felt unfamiliar, but they quickly became essential to my practice by
opening my eyes to the possibilities within the medium. They encouraged me to experiment across different styles and ways of working,
allowing me to engage with a variety of subjects and perspectives.
My background in early education has also shaped the way I approach communication in my work. During my senior year of high school,
I interned at Bel-Aire Elementary and continue to volunteer there when I return home. After graduating, I spent a year working as a
preschool lead teacher and nanny. These experiences strengthened my ability to communicate ideas clearly and thoughtfully - skills
that consistently influence how I present my work and consider how my images resonate with different audiences.
During my sophomore year at Pratt Munson, I received the Jane Blair Photography Award, given to one student in each department
based on the evolution of their work and dedication to their practice. The award allowed me to continue my studies at Pratt’s
main campus, where I continue to explore photography as a medium for dialogue and social engagement.
I am now searching to further my experience and expand upon my knowledge to aid me in my artistic endeavors. My enthusiasm for
the tool of art is deeply rooted in my desire to make a difference in the world. I am looking forward to how I will continue to
evolve and my work, in return.
